Planting design

The key to a great garden.

One of the keys to a great-looking garden is choosing the right plants and putting them in the right place.

When should you plan and design your garden?

The key time of year to be planning your garden for the following year is winter.

Things are quiet, the garden is on a go-slow and it’s probably too wet to get out there. It’s much nicer to sit inside where it’s warm and dream about the garden you want. Plan in winter. Plant in spring or autumn.

What are the things you need to consider when designing a garden?

Trained garden designers think about a whole bunch of things when planning a garden.

Will it be balanced? Is there a common theme? How do we keep it simple? What will the points of focus be and where will they go? How will it develop over time?

How do we work?

We are trained and can help.

  1. First, we interview you to find out what you like and then present some initial ideas and a Mood Board.

  2. Next, we will make a rough plan with elevation drawings to discuss with you.

  3. Finally, we develop a final plan and budget. Then it’s a matter of buying the plants and getting them in the ground.

Please note that we are not Landscape Designers or Landscape Architects. We do the ‘soft-scaping’ (the plants), not the ‘hard-scaping’ (patio construction, fencing, paving etc).
