GARDEN design

Look outside. Love what you see.

Garden retro-fit.

Designed to draw the eye to the magnificent heritage Totara at the end of the walkway. Succulents, natives, colour and form.

Semi-formal with a splash of colour

A more traditional design with buxus borders, white roses, native topiary and a splash of burgundy Maple as a hat-tip to Roberto Burle-Marx, a Brazilian designer.

Colour and light

This client wanted seasonal colour, natives and a productive garden. Tomatoes, kawakawa, tree ferns and a bougainvillea to herald Christmas.

One of the keys to a great-looking garden is professional garden design.

When should you plan and design your garden?

Plan in summer or winter. Plant in autumn or spring.

Things are quiet and the garden is on a go-slow. Now is the time to dream about the garden you want. Planning is about timing. Plan in advance to ensure you get the plants you want from the nursery when they are in good condition. Get the planning done so you can get the plants in the ground when conditions are most suitable. Great design helps make a great garden.

What are the things you need to consider when designing a garden?

Trained garden designers think about a whole bunch of things when planning a garden.

Will it be balanced? Is there a common theme? How do we keep it simple? What will the points of focus be and where will they go? How will it develop over time? With Blue Duck you get great garden design from excellent garden designers. We know what works in certain conditions both aesthetically and practically. We can bring out the beauty and give you the best chance of it looking good over times

How do we work?

We are designers as well as gardeners and can help.

First, we visit for a chat and a look around. After the visit you will receive a quote for the design-work.

Next, if you want to proceed, we interview you to find out what you like and then present some initial ideas and a Mood Board.

After that, we will make a rough plan with drawings to discuss with you.

Finally, we develop a final plan and budget. Then it’s a matter of buying the plants and getting them in the ground.

Please note that we are not Landscape Designers or Landscape Architects. We do the ‘soft-scaping’ (the plants), not the ‘hard-scaping’ (patio construction, fencing, paving etc). We have a superb partner who designs the ‘hard’ stuff while we do the plants.
